Inference — SSAT Upper practice questions

On the SSAT Upper Reading Comprehension section, Inference questions ask students to draw a conclusion that is strongly supported by a passage but never stated outright. A student has to combine details, tone, and context to decide what an author, narrator, or character most likely means, feels, or would do next. The exam typically frames these items as what the passage suggests, implies, or allows the reader to conclude, with five answer choices that range from a conservative, text-based claim to an attractive overstatement. Common traps include choices that repeat an explicit fact, that sound plausible from outside knowledge, or that go further than the evidence allows.
